Join our Staff!

Welcome to the most exciting, humbling, rewarding, uplifting, and downright FUN project you will ever participate in!

After checking out our site thoroughly, we think you will be JUMPING AT THE CHANCE to join our staff!

What do you need to know beyond what we have already told you?

1.  All positions are volunteer - we have NO paid staff, from the doctors and nurses, therapists, camp director, and administrators on down.  The camp is completely administered start to finish by a dedicated group of volunteers who want to help kids with disabilities have a fun summer experience.   Staff do not have to pay to attend camp - all room and board expenses are paid for you in exchange for your service.

2.  No experience is required for peer (youth) and unit (adult) counselors.  We will train you.  However, please see the job descriptions for information about the qualities that we look for in good counselors.

3.  All volunteers over the age of 18 must submit to a police background check.

4.  Occasionally staff ask to bring spouses, children, grandchildren, or pets.  Pets are not allowed, although service animals are welcome to come with their owners.  The camp is not "child proof" and safety is a concern for very young children.  Every additional attendee costs the camp money for room and board.  If you have a special request, PLEASE contact the camp administration at info@campsock.org

5.  We ESPECIALLY have a need for volunteers with specialized experience - lifeguards, first-aiders, certified nursing assistants, therapists, boat-safety instructors, etc.   If you have such experience, PLEASE let us know in your application AND submit a copy of any licenses you may have.

6.  While Southern Oregon Camp Kiwanis is not affiliated with any religious organization, we do sing a "grace" or blessing before meals.  If this is a problem, please notify the Camp Director so that we can make other arrangements.  We do not wish to offend or alienate anyone.

7.  Southern Oregon Camp Kiwanis purchases room and board from the United Church of the Brethren, whom we rent from.  They prepare all our meals.  If you have special dietary requirements, please notify the Camp Director of the Director of Medical Services so that we can make those arrangements with our hosting camp cooks.

8.  Smoking by adults over the age of 18 is allowed at camp, but only in designated smoking areas.  You will be asked to refrain from smoking in the proximity of campers and youth.

9.  Southern Oregon Camp Kiwanis is affiliated with local Southern Oregon Kiwanis clubs.  Please see the link to find out more about this service organization.

10.  Still have questions?  Email us at info@campsock.org, or specifically to the Camp Director, Medical Services Director, Activities Director, or Communications Director at their individual email addresses provided in the Board of Directors link.
